Missouri TBF Announces Qualifiers for our 2018 Season!

The Missouri TBF has selected two of the hottest lakes in the state for their 2018 Qualifiers.  The first qualifier will be held at Lake of the Ozarks (Shawnee Bend Ramp) on March 17 & 18th.  The second event will be at Stockton Lake (Orleans Trail Ramp) on April 21-22.  This schedule will put anglers on lakes with healthy fish populations during the best time of the year.  These lakes provide anglers with a varied range of cover and structure meaning several techniques will surely come into play, giving all anglers a great chance to catch some big bags.

The two-tournament schedule gives anglers twice as many chances to qualify for the National Semi-Final.  Unlike some circuits, the Missouri TBF has two separate statewide tournaments which helps clubs and their anglers avoid family and other commitments each year and still have an opportunity to qualify for advancement to the TBF National Championship, BFL All-American and even the Forrest Wood Cup. This is not a “series” format, instead the top 3 anglers and 3 co-anglers from each event will move directly to the TBF National Semi-Final this fall.  This means that anglers can fish the Qualifier, the National Semi-Final and the TBF National Championship all in a matter of 12-16 months!

Last year the traditional “draw” format for the Qualifier was changed, with boaters and co-anglers being scored separately.  This means boat partners will not be fishing against each other during the day, assuring a friendly experience for everyone (see Tournament Rules for full details). In another move that is sure to be popular the TBF has lowered entry fees for boaters and non-boaters! At the Qualifiers anglers and co-anglers will be fishing for daily big bass payouts, trophies and expense paid trips to the National Semi-Final.  Additionally, annual Angler and Co-Angler of the year prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top point getters over both tournaments.

In order to participate in the Qualifiers anglers must have annual dues and individual entry fees paid at least 7 days prior to the event. Entry forms for the Qualifier are available on the website or from your club President.   Clubs or individual anglers who are interested in joining the Missouri TBF should contact Jon Small at (816)560-2722 or Dennis Maggart at (816)718-0335.  We have clubs across the state that are looking for boaters and co-anglers so if you are an experienced tournament angler or a weekend guy wanting to have fun and learn more about how to catch big bass please give us a call.

TBF Junior Anglers

Started in 1994, the TBF Junior Angler program is one of the oldest youth fishing programs in the country.  In 2018 we will have a brand-new format!  By popular demand, all TBF Junior events will now be 2-person TEAM tournaments.  This will allow young anglers to team with a buddy and fish from their own boats with their own boat captains!

Our Junior Angler program is open to youth 15 years old and younger (as of Aug 31 of the Junior World Championship they are trying to qualify for).  We are open to all youth so If you don’t have a partner and/or boat captain we can help you find one.

Missouri TBF Junior Angler program includes several state-wide tournaments as well as fundraising and conservation projects. The competitive branch of this program allows the anglers to achieve the Missouri Junior State Championship and qualify for the TBF Junior World Championship (JWC). The top team from Missouri advances to the JWC, which is now a 3-day event (with a cut on day 2) where anglers compete from their own boat for thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes!

The TBF Junior World Championship is the premier junior fishing tournament in the world and it is held each year in conjunction with the Forest Wood Cup which is professional fishing richest event.  In 2018, anglers will be competing at Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, Arkansas on August 9-11, making for a convenient trip for our young anglers and their family!

Minn Kota® Debuts New Portable Digital Battery Chargers at ICAST

Minn Kota launches the only shallow-water anchor that gives anglers control from anywhere in the boat, plus unlocks more water for precise, anchored fishing with a new 15-foot version.

mk_CMYK_logoRacine, Wisconsin (8/4/2017) Using a Minn Kota® Talon® for precise boat control has never been easier. In fact, there are now five ways for anglers to activate the Talon from anywhere in the boat. The newest way utilizes Bluetooth® communication to pair the Talon with Humminbird® units on the boat for total boat control on one console (including the ability to pair Humminbird units with select Minn Kota trolling motors). Anglers can also engage the anchor using a foot switch, with a wireless remote (every Talon comes standard with two), via the new Talon smartphone app, and with the Talon’s built-in control panel.

According to Minn Kota Brand Manager Brad Henry, “When it’s time to Talon down we give anglers options so they can lock on a spot no matter where they are in the boat or their style of fishing.”

Another major advancement is the introduction of Minn Kota’s new 15-foot Talon, the deepest shallow-water anchor ever made. It allows anglers to lock down on more spots to effectively unlock more water.

Hall of Fame angler Al Lindner explains how Talon’s depth delivers results for his multi-species pursuits. “I use it for catfish in rivers, for crappies in the spring, naturally for bass, and in more cases than I ever thought – for walleyes. Yeah, you heard me right, walleyes.”

Also new for 2017 is a clever work light built into the Talon top cap. When fishing in dark conditions, the work light illuminates the entire back deck of the boat to help anglers when rigging and landing fish at night. It has three brightness settings and white or blue LED light options for ideal illumination.

Talon allows anglers to anchor in any condition with three user-selectable anchoring modes – another exclusive feature. The AUTO-DRIVE MODE powers the spike into the bottom with three increasingly aggressive hits. A SOFT BOTTOM MODE is ideal for less aggressive anchoring and easier retraction in muddy or silted bottom. When the wind is blowing, the ROUGH WATER MODE performs three consecutive auto-drive sequences at 10-second intervals for a secure hold when the boat rises and falls in waves.

Talon’s electro-mechanical design keeps the motor above the waterline for silent stealth below the surface. Talon also deploys vertically and out of the way, helping eliminate unwanted tangles when fighting boat-side fish. Also, anglers can add the tilt bracket accessory for easy tilt function for passing under low-hanging obstacles.

In addition to the new 15-footer, Talons are also available in 8-, 10- and 12-foot models. They all feature Bluetooth technology with a variety of color combinations including red/black, blue/black, silver/black, silver/white, all black and all white. The new Talons will be available in October 2017 and will retail for $1,899.99 (8-foot), $1,999.99 (10-foot), 2,099.99 (12-foot) and $2,499.99 (15-foot).
